Colella Landslide, very ancient crystalline-metamorphic rocks, augen-gneiss, phyllites and biotic schists. Called Deep-seated Gravitational Slope Deformation, is defined as the largest landslide phenomenon in Europe, situated in the municipality of Roccaforte del Greco and located in the Colella Valley with a wide front of almost a kilometer and on its sides the peaks of Pietre Bianche and Punta d’Atò.
The tributary at the base, which removes large volumes of debris, after a little bit more than 800 meters joins the Amendolea river on its left hydrographic side. The geosite, visible from several points, looks like an awesome crack in the mountain, a lunar landscape of polychromatic and devastating beauty with almost vertical ridges of sandstone and clay showing clearly today’s ongoing and constant erosion process.
