Pietra Cappa, sedimentary rocks, polygenic conglomerate. Enigmatic, imposing, famous but with a mysterious charm, Pietra Cappa is the emblem of the Aspromonte Geopark and with good reason a geosite of international importance situated within the territory of San Luca. It occupies 4 hectares of land and is over 100m high, located on the eastern side of the Park within what is called the Valley of the Big Stones, an area of great naturalistic and geological interest, characterized by rock settlements, caves and Byzantine ruins.

Pietra Lunga, Pietra Castello, Pietra di Febo, Pietra Tonda, Rocche di San Pietro are part of this unique sedimentary environment, closely related to outcrops in Sardinia and Piedmont. Throughout the whole area there are numerous legends, already from the medieval period, starting with the name which seems to indicate an overturned cup, as well as religious and pagan legends. They tell about Jesus and the apostle Peter, (from the Aramaic Kephà), the mystery of the Templars, the foundation of the Order of Sion, the origin of the Knights of Malta, all stories connected to the anthropization of the whole area over the centuries which do nothing els than increase the aura of mystery and charm of a a place which has always created awe and astonishment.
