It seems to take a journey through time and space approaching Roghudi Vecchio, the town now completely abandoned following the floods in the early seventies, located in a spectacular position between the Fiumara Amendolea, a geosite of international importance, and the Furria torrent, in the Greek area, where the elderly still speak the Greek language. There are countless stories to tell about the difficult life of the past, about abandonment, about the legends of the place, and above all about the meaning of the fiumara for the landscape, agriculture and culture of this area over the millennia and centuries. And we don’t lack the time to do it. We descend to the Amendolea riverbed to physically step on this remote but breathtaking place. We walk along the river bed that majestically dominates the barren landscape like a vital artery until we reach the lower entrance of the village and then ascend along the mule track and the narrow lanes, exploring the houses one by one and imagining, indeed almost feeling the life of the past. And for a few hours we will awaken the soul of this place with our presence. (Hiking time: about 3 hours, elevation gain: about 150 m)
